HABANG ang mga katunggali ay nagbabakbakan para sa nalalabing tatlong semifinals berths, ang consensus title favorite Ateneo ay mag-isang nagre-relax sa ibabaw ng standings sa UAAP men’s basketball tournament.

Dalawang panalo na lamang ang kailangan ng kanyang koponan para dumiretso sa Finals, ayaw magkumpiyansa ni coach Tab Baldwin para sa sweep sa double-round eliminations.

“No. We’re just thinking NU. For any team in this position things like undefeated seasons, sweeps, they happen because you take it one step at at time not because you make some grand statement about how good you are in front of a microphone,” wika ni Baldwin.

“Sports is about performance, not about bragging about performance. So we’re very much focused on what our next performance is gonna be. Hopefully when we go up against NU, we’ll be prepared for that game and we’ll take care of business,” ani  Baldwin.

Balanse ang  powerhouse Eagles kung kaya balewala kina graduating seniors Thirdy Ravena at Isaac Go kung maging suporta lamang sa mga bata ngunit talentado ring teammates.

“We all carry a very important role no matter how small or how big it is because every single detail adds up to the bigger picture which is actually who we are, Blue Eagles Band Of Brothers, yun yung nage-embody samin,” pahayag ni Ravena.

“All those little details that people don’t see during the games that they put as much hours as we do in the court, the preparation that they do for us. They help us win for the games. Yun yung intangibles na hindi nakikita ng mga tao na very valuable to us players especially the people who are playing a lot of minutes,” dagdag pa niya.

“That’s why our role talaga is to make sure na the games in our favor para makalaro sila. I think that’s it. Yun lang. Kung ano yung kinaim-portante namin ganun kaimportante lahat ng players sa team.”

Samantala, sisikapin ng  University of Santo Tomas na makasiguro ng playoff para sa hu­ling semifinals berth laban sa  also-ran Adamson sa alas-4 ng hapon.

Sa halip na walang problema sa pagpasok sa semis, ang  Grow­ling Tigers ay kailangang manalo sa  Falcons at umasang maging paborable ang resulta ng huling dalawang playdates ng  elims.

Ang pagpasok ng UST sa semis ay naunsiyani sa 79-80 pagkatalo sa La Salle noong Miyerkoles kung saan bumagsak ang Tigers  sa tie sa  Far Eastern University sa ikatlong puwesto sa 7-6.
