Nagbitiw si Abogado sa kanyang puwesto halos isang linggo makaraang pumutok ang balita na nagsagawa ang Growling Tigers ng training camp sa kabila ng banta ng COVID-19.
Ang director ng UST-IPEA ang siya ring nangangasiwa sa varsity teams ng unibersidad bilang athletic director, na nangangahulugan na maaari ring may pananagutan si Abogado sa pagpayag sa Tigers na magsagawa ng basketball training bubble.
Sa joint administrative order para sa sports practices sa gitna ng COVID-19 pandemic, ang mga amateur team ay hindi pinapayagang mag-ensayo, kaya malinaw na paglabag sa quarantine protocols ang UST bubble, kung totoo man ito.
Magmula nang tanggapin ang puwesto noong 2017 bilang kapalit ni Fr. Ermito de Sagon, si Abogado ay tila nagkaroon ng breakthrough year bilang athletic director ng UST noong nakaraang taon makaraang makapasok ang men’s basketball at women’s volleyball teams nito sa University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) finals makalipas ang maraming taon.
