WALA pang desisyon ang Vietnam kung itutuloy ang 31st Southeast Asian Games sa Nobyembre o ipagpapaliban ito sa susunod na taon.

Ayon kay Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) President Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino, humingi ang Vietnamese organizers ng 14 araw para magsagawa ng pinal na desisyon.

“They [Vietnamese] are hesitant to make a decision,” wika ni Tolentino matapos ang one-hour virtual meeting sa mga miyembro ng SEA Games Federation.

Ang Hanoi SEA Games ay nakatakda sa Nobyembre 21 hanggang Disyembre 2 at dahil sa pagtaas ng kaso ng COVID-19 ay sinabi ng Vietnamese organizers sa SEA Games Federation na iuurong nila ang biennial meet sa Hulyo 2022.

Tinangka ng walong member countries na hikayatin ang Vietnam na ituloy ang Games sa orihinal na petsa nito habang pumanig ang Myanmar sa host dahil sa political crisis nito habang nag-abstain ang Laos.

Sinabi ni Tolentino na igagalang ng POC ang magiging desisyon ng Vietnam.

“We will respect the decision of Vietnam because we cannot do anything if they say the games are postponed,” aniya.

Handa na ang Vietnam na i-host ang Games makaraang maagang matapos ang lahat ng infrastructure nito subalit nagkaroon ng pag-aalinlangan dahil sa COVID-19.

May  207 bagong kaso ng virus sa Vietnam, lubhang mababa kumpara sa 4,338 na naitala sa Filipinas noong Miyerkoles.

Taliwas naman ito sa mga organizer ng  Tokyo Olympics na itutuloy ang quadrennial meet simula sa Hulyo 23.
