TINANGGAL na bilang miyembro ng National Security Council (NSC) ang bise presidente at mga dating pangulo ng Pilipinas.
Alinsunod sa Executive Order Number 81 na nilagdaan ni Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin noong December 30, 2024, kailangan na ang pagbabago o re-organization sa nasabing ahensiya.
“At the moment, the VP is not considered relevant to the responsibilities of membership in the NSC,” ayon kay Bersamin.
Nonetheless, when the need arises, the EO reserves to the President the power to add members or advisers,” dagdag pa ni Bersamin.
Batay sa bagong restructure, ang kasalukuyang Pangulo ng Pilipinas ang magiging chairperson at miyembro nito ang 26 iba pa kabilang ang
Senate President; Speaker of the House of Representatives; Senate President Pro-Tempore; Three Deputy Speakers to be designated by the Speaker; Majority Floor Leader of the Senate; Majority Floor Leader of the House; Minority Floor Leader of the Senate; Minority Floor Leader of the House; Chairpersons of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Senate Committee on National Defense and Security, Peace, Unification and Reconciliation, and Senate Committee on Public Order and Dangerous Drugs, bilang mga miyembro.
Bahagi rin ng council ang mga Chairpersons ng House Committee on Foreign Affairs, House Committee on National Defense and Security, House Committee on Public Order and Safety; Executive Secretary; National Security Adviser; Secretaries of Department of Foreign Affairs, Department of Justice, Department of National Defense, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Labor and Employment, Presidential Communications Office; Chief Presidential Legal Counsel; Head of the Presidential Legislative Liaison Office; at ibang pang opisyal ng gobyerno at pribadong indobiduwal na itatalaga ng Pangulo.
Samantala, ang Director-General ng National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), at Director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) ay dadalo rin sa mga pulong upang magbigay ng mga kakailanganing advise at assistance sa mga gagawing deliberasyon.
Habang imbitado rin sa pulong ang governor ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.
Ang NSC ang nagsisilbing principal advisory body na siyang nangangasiwa sa koordinasyon at integration ng mga plano at polisya na may kinalaman sa pambansamg seguridad.
Ang NSC na dating Council Of National Defense ay itinatag sa ilalim ng Commonwealth Act Number 1 o National Defense Act sa pamamagitan ng Executive Order No. 115 (series 1986) at Executive Order No. 292 series of 1987 o ang ang Administrative Code of 1987.
Makaraan ang 38 taong pag-iral, ipinatupad ang re-organization at pagbabago rito.
