Binigyang diin ni Department of Education (DepEd) Secretary Sonny Angara na priority nila ang pagpapabilis ng pagrebisa sa Senior High School (SHS) Curriculum at bawasan ang subjects para makapag-concentrate ang learners sa work immersion.
“So, we must have flexibility in our system. If we reduce the subjects of our SHS curriculum, the students will have more time for the on-the-job training or work immersion needed by the industry so that our senior high school graduates will become more employable even if they lack work experience,” ani Secretary Angara.
“So, we’re on the right direction to reduce the core subjects of our SHS curriculum to just five or six subjects,” dagdag pa niya.
Kamakailan, nakipagmiting ang DepEd sa mga academic experts upang pabilisin ang efforts sa pagrebisa at streamlining ng SHS program and subjects.
Kasama sa meeting ang mga consultants mula sa Asian Development Bank (ADB) upang magbigay ng rekomendasyon sa istraktura ng SHS curriculum at sa content ng English, Science, at Math standards gayundin sa curriculum guides.
Nakipag-collaborated din ang DepEd sa ADB para magbigay ng technical assistance at professional guidance sa mga DepEd specialists para rebisahin SHS curriculum.
Una nang sinabi ni Angara na sobrang crowded na ang basic education curriculum ng bansa ayon sa education experts ng ibang bansa.
Kasamang dumalo sa pagpupulong sina DepEd Undersecretary for Curriculum and Teaching Gina Gonong, Assistant Secretary Joyce Dr Andaya, Teacher Education Council Executive Director Jennie Jocson, Office of the Secretary Director Maggie Del-Valle Ramoso, pati na si EDCOM Executive Director Karol Mark Yee.
Represented naman ang ADB ng mga consultants na sina Margaret Bigelow, Mary Coupland, Michael Murray, Mel Dixon, Gerard Edward McCloughan, at Dagmar Arthur, upang pagdiskusyunan ang kanilang maitutulong, habang binibigyang diin ang probisyon ngf technical advice sa DepEd base sa evidence-based approaches and strategies on the process of curriculum review and revision.
