NAPIGILAN ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) ang tangkang pagpupuslit ng kabuuang 146,000 litro ng unmarked fuel na nagkakahalaga ng milyon-milyong piso noong Sabado sa Mariveles, Bataan.
In-impound din ng BOC ang motorized tanker na ginamit sa paghahatid ng fuel.
Ayon kay BOC-CIIS Director Verne Enciso, ang tinatayang halaga ng fuel at 16 lorry trucks ay nasa P88 million, habang ang vessel ay P60 million. Ang operasyon sa Barangay Alas Asin ay isinagawa ng mga tauhan ng Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service sa Manila International Container Port at National Bureau of Investigation – Anti-Organized and Transnational Crime Division kasunod ng isang tip.
“Our agents went to the anchorage area upon receiving information that there were several vessels carrying alleged smuggled fuel and thereafter being transferred to lorry trucks. A significant challenge in this operation is that this happened in a private port without BOC personnel, so the intel we received is critical,” wika ni Customs Commissioner Bien Rubio sa isang statement.
