17 SA MPBL ‘GAME-FIXING’ KAKASUHAN NG DOJ

NAKAKITA ng ‘probable cause’ ang Department of Justice (DOJ) laban sa 17 katao na sangkot sa Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) game-fixing scandal noong 2019.

Sa isang resolution, sinabi ng DOJ na nakakita ng ‘probable cause’ para sa game fixing sa ilalim ng Sec. 1(a) ng P.D. No. 1602 in relation to P.D. No. 483 laban sa isang Mr. Sung (14 counts); Sonny Uy (9);  Serafin Matias, Jr. (7); Ferdinand Melocoton (4); Jake Diwa (14); Exequiel Biteng (13); Jerome Juanico (14); Matthew Bernabe (12); Abraham Santos (10); Ricky Morillo (1); John Patric Rabe (7); Ryan Regalado (9); Julio Magbandua, Jr. (10); Janus Lozada (1);  Joshua Alcober (1);  Kein a.k.a. Kein Zhu (3); at  Emma a.k.a. Emma Meng (1)

Ang game-fixing charges ay isasampa sa mga korte ng Batangas, Malolos, Bacoor, Angeles, Pasay, Pasig, Caloocan, at Muntinlupa.

Dinismis naman ang 17 counts ng betting at point shaving dahil sa kawalan ng ebidensiya. Ibinasura rin ang mga kasong isinampa laban kina Soccsksargen Marlins team manager  Kevin Espinosa, EJ Avila, Quezon City Capitals team manager Nino Dionisio, at Nice Ilagan dahil sa kawalan ng ebidensiya.

Magugunitang noong November 2019 ay nagsampa ng kaso si MPBL founder at Sen. Manny Pacquiao laban sa ilang players at officials ng Soccsksargen Marlins team dahil sa umano’y game-fixing, betting on games, at  point shaving.

Sa reklamo ng MPBL, ang mga respondent ay nagsabwatan para ayusin ang resulta ng mga laro sa pagitan ng Hulyo at Oktubre sa Pasay, Pasig, Navotas, Caloocan, Muntinlupa, Batangas City, Bacoor, Malolos, Angeles City, at Bacolod City.

“This should serve as a serious reminder to all other teams in the MPBL that we are intolerant to any form of cheating and other unsportsmanlike behavior.
