INIULAT ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) na may 34 wildlife species ang naharang sa Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) noong nakaraang linggo.
Ayon sa BOC, ang naturang wildlife species ay nagmula sa isang babaeng pasahero na dumating mula sa Bangkok, Thailand sa NAIA Terminal 2 noong Disyembre 6, 2018.
Sa kabuuan, 20 lizards, 4 snakes at 10 moss frogs ang in-scan ni Customs x-ray inspector Angel Aboloc sa luggage ng isang babaeng pasahero sa NAIA Terminal 2.
“The wildlife species found in shoe boxes inside the luggage of the passenger were immediately turned over to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources [DENR] and were brought to the Biodiversity Management Bureau in Quezon City for proper identification, care and protection,” sabi ng BOC.
Binigyang-diin pa ng ahensiya na ang importasyon ng wildlife species nang walang kaukulang permit o clearance mula sa DENR ay isang paglabag sa Customs Modernization Tariff Act (CMTA) in relation to the provisions of Republic Act 9147, o ang Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001.
