$50-M LOAN DEAL NILAGDAAN NG ADB BILANG AYUDA SA INTERNET, INFRA SA PH, ASIA-PACIFIC

TOKYO – Lu­magda ang Asian Deve­lopment Bank (ADB) sa $50 million loan agreement upang ­udyukan ang paggamit ng internet sa Asia-Pacific region, kung saan kalahati ng financing ay magmumula sa pondo na su-portado ng Japan International ­Cooperation Agency.

“The project will extend low-cost, high-speed internet availability through a communications satellite to more than 2 billion people in island states in the region where internet use lags because of inadequate infrastructure or lack of affordability,” ayon sa JICA.

Ang mga bansa ay kinabibilangan ng Pa­pua New Guinea, Indonesia at Philippines.

Ang proyekto ay makatutulong din sa pagpapalakas ng educational services, pagpapalawak ng information access, pagpaparami ng investment appeal at pagpapalago ng regional economies, habang sinisiguro ang network continuity sa panahon ng kalamidad o emergencies.

Sa ilalim ng kasunduan na nilagdaan noong nakaraang buwan, pangangasiwaan ng Kacific Broadband Satel-lites International Ltd. ang  construction, launch at operation ng high-throughput satellite na tinawag na  Kacific-1, at nakatakdang simulan ang operasyon sa kaagahan ng 2020.

“The funding will be split between the ADB and Leading Asia’s Private Infrastructure Fund, set up as part of the follow-up measures for the ‘Partnership for Quality Infrastructure’ initiative that the Japanese government an-nounced in November 2015.”

Ang fund ay itinatag noong March 2016 nang aprubahan ng JICA ang $1.5 billion contribution sa pamamagi-tan ng private-sector investment financing.

Magmula nang itatag, ang fund ay nakapagkaloob ng financing na may kabuuang $500 million para sa high-quality infrastructure projects tulad ng  health initiatives sa India at Indonesia at renewable energy schemes sa Mongolia at Thailand. PILIPINO Mirror Reportorial Team
