NANAWAGAN si House Committee on Creative Industry and Performing Arts chairman Christopher de Venecia na suspendihin muna ang buwis na ipinapataw sa mga lokal na pelikula.

Kasabay nito ay ikinalugod ng kongresista ang desisyon ng pamahalaan na buksan muli ang mga sinehan bunsod na rin ng pagsasailalim sa NCR sa Alert Level 3 dahil sa pagbaba ng mga naitatalang COVID-19 cases sa rehiyon.

Paliwanag ni De Venecia, malaking kabawasan sa kikitain ngayon ng local film production outfits ang buwis na ipapataw lalo pa’t ang movie at entertainment industry ang isa sa mga sektor na pinakaapektado ng pandemya.

Aniya, kung sususpendihin muna ang koleksiyon ng buwis sa mga lokal na pelikula, matutulungan ang mga kompanya na makabangon mula sa mga nawalang kita, gayundin ang makagawa ng marami pang pelikula at mabigyan muli ng trabaho ang mga dating empleyado.

Ang panawagang ito ay nakapaloob din sa inaprubahang House Bill 8428 sa committee level na layong bigyan naman ng dalawang taong suspensiyon sa koleksyon ng amusement taxes ang creative arts sector.

Samantala, para lalo pang matulungan ang industriya ay humihirit din ang kongresista sa mga theater operator  na iprayoridad o gawing patas ang pagpapalabas ng local movies at foreign films sa mga sinehan. CONDE BATAC
