“What the BIR needs to achieve in the future is to increase the percentage of tax collectors of overall GDP at levels of our neighbors and competitors, so collect the taxes of those who are not paying, of those who are avoiding taxes, but where the BIR is right now, I think they are in the best position to do that,” pahayag ni Internatioal Container Service Inc. Chairman Enrique Razon, Jr., isa sa mga business-tycoon na dumalo sa nasabing okasyon.
Mandato ng BIR, batay sa ipinatutupad na probisyon ng DOF, na i-monitor, i-assess at kolektahin ang lahat ng national internal revenue taxes, fees and charges, to enforce all forfeitures, penalties and fines connected, including the execution of judgements in all cases decided by the courts.
“The agency has already streamlined the tax collection process with the symplified forms which can be filled up online with the digital filing of tax returns. The BIR aims to collect some P2.08 trillion in taxes this year, up from the P1.94 trillion it collected in 2020, mainly to finance efforts to support the country’s economic recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic,” paliwanag ni Commissioner Billy.
Bukod kay Razon, kabilang din sa dumalo sa BIR kick-off sina Union Bank of the Philippines Chaiman Justo Ortiz, Ayala Corporation Chairman at Chief Executive Officer Zobel de Ayala and San Miguel Corporation President Ramon Ang.
Ipinagmalaki ni Commissioner Dulay sa kanyang report kay Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang magandang collection performance na ipinamalas nina BIR Regional Directors Albin Galanza, Romulo Aguila, Gerry Dumayas, Jethro Sabariaga, Glen Geraldino, Maridur Rosario, Ed Tolentino, Ric Espirito, Dante Aninag at iba pa sa kabila ng pananalasa ng pandemya.
Pinuri rin ni Commissioner Billy sina Revenue District Officers Rufo Ranario, Arnold Galapia, Antonio Ilagan, Rodel Buenaobra, Deogracias Villar, Jr., Bethsheba Bautista, Saripuden Bantog at iba pang revenue district officers sa ipinamalas nilang excellent tax collection performance sa panahon ng COVID-19 pandemic.
