The Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go demonstrated its commitment to helping those in need by distributing much-needed assistance to indigent families in Malolos City and Sta. Maria, Bulacan on Friday, May 12.
Held at the Malolos City Hall and District Office in Sta. Maria, Bulacan, Go’s team distributed masks, snacks, and shirts to a total of 89 struggling residents. They also gave away cellular phones, and balls for basketball and volleyball to select individuals.
Meanwhile, a team from the Department of Social Welfare and Development extended financial assistance to help with the residents’ medical and daily expenses.
As the Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go also urged the public to utilize medical and financial assistance from any of the Malasakit Centers located at the Bulacan Medical Center in Malolos City, Rogaciano M. Mercado Memorial Hospital in Sta. Maria, and Ospital ng Lungsod ng San Jose del Monte in San Jose del Monte City.
Malasakit Centers bring together representatives from the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. These one-stop shops aim to support impoverished patients in reducing their hospital costs to the least possible amount.
Go is the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act No. 11463 or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program.
To date, 157 operational centers have helped more than seven million Filipinos nationwide, according to the DOH.
“Sa mga pasyente, lapitan niyo lang ang Malasakit Center dahil para ‘to sa inyo. Kung may hospital bill kayo, nandiyan ang mga ahensya ng gobyerno na tutulong para mabayaran ito,” said Go.
Meanwhile, in line with his commitment to uplift the lives of Bulakeños, Go, as Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, supported the rehabilitation of the Bulacan State University Activity Center and construction of a multipurpose building in Malolos City, construction of drainages, provision of medical equipment for local hospitals, improvement of the Pandi District Hospital, concreting of a farm-to-market road in San Ildefonso, and many more.
