IBINIDA ni Department of Trade and Industry(DTI) Secretary Alfredo E. Pascual ang Pilipinas bilang magandang investment destination para sa Chinese businesses.
Ginawa ni Pascual ang pahayag sa Hong Kong – ASEAN Summit 2022 na idinaos noong Nobyembre 3, 2022.
Aniya, ang bansa ay gateway sa Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) at isang “ideal complement to Hong Kong and Mainland China businesses.”
Sinamantala ng Trade chief ang Summit upang ipakita ang kaaya-ayang Philippine business environment sa mga kalahok na business leaders, policymakers at entrepreneurs mula Hong Kong, Mainland China, at iba pang bahagi ng mundo.
Ang Summit ay nagsilbing venue para talakayin ang kagyat na future holds para sa Hong Kong at ASEAN.
Pinag-usapan ng industry experts ang hinaharap ng Hong Kong bilang super connector para sa China at ASEAN; at kung paano sila makikipagtulungan sa Hong Kong para mapagbuti ang kanilang mga ekonomiya.
Sa naturang pagpupulong ay binigyang-diin ni Pascual ang kahalagahan ng ugnayan sa pagitan ng Pilipinas at ng Hong-Kong, tinukoy ang lumalagong kalakalan sa pagitan ng dalawang bansa.
“The Philippines and Hong Kong have enjoyed longstanding economic and trade relations. In 2021, Hong Kong was our 4th largest export market, with a total value of USD9.9 billion. This amount represents about 14% of the country’s total exports. With trade growing through the years, Philippine exports to Hong Kong increased by 7.7% from USD9.2 billion in 2020, and imports from Hong Kong increased by 17.4% to USD3.3 billion in 2021,” pag-uulat ni Pascual.
“Hong Kong remains one of the top trading partners of the Philippines. We intend to continue building our strong economic ties with Hong Kong in the future through the Joint Economic Committee, among others,” dagdag ng Trade chief.
Ang pagpupulong, inorganisa ng South China Morning Post (SCMP), ay umakit ng 200 participants sa business at government sector na dumalo sa in person at nagtala ng 800 participants online. In addition,
Ang Summit ay opisyal na binuksan nina SCMP Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Catherine So, at Hong-Kong – ASEAN Foundation Chairman, Mr. Daryl Ng.
Ang iba pang keynote speakers ay sina Mr. John Lee, Chief Executive ng Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) at Mr. Ong Ye Kung, Minister for Health ng Republic of Singapore.
