MAGIGING hosts ang Pilipinas sa 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers para sa Group A sa Pebrero 2022, ayon sa Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).
Ang Pilipinas ay naunang nakaiskedyul na sumagupa sa South Korea, New Zealand, at India sa isang home-and-away format sa susunod na buwan.
Subalit gumawa ang FIBA ng adjustments at sa halip ay gagamit ng bubble format dahil sa travel restrictions sanhi ng COVID-19 pandemic.
Ang February tilt ay tatampukan ng dalawang windows kung saan apat na bansa ang maglalaro sa walong games.
“The FIBA Regional Office Asia has been closely monitoring the pandemic situation in the region and they saw it fit to employ their right to hold the games in a bubble,” wika ni SBP President Al Panlilio.
“The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, because of the experience we gained in hosting the final window of the FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers, volunteered to host the games in Group A,” dagdag pa niya.
Ang New Zealand ay huling sumabak sa bansa sa 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, habang ang India ay huling bumisita sa 2013 FIBA Asia Championship.
Winalis ng Pilipinas ang South Korea sa third at final window ng 2021 FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers, na hinost ng una noong Hunyo sa Angeles University Foundation Gym sa Pampanga.
Ang Group B ng 2023 FIBA World Cup Asian qualifiers ay idaraos din sa isang bubble setup kung saan magjging hosts ang Japan sa China sa Nob. 27 at 28 bago harapin ang Australia at Chinese Taipei sa Pebrero.
Nasa Group C ang Jordan, Lebanon, Indonesia, at Saudi Arabia, habang ang Group D ay kinabibilangan ng Iran, Kazakhstan, Syria, at Bahrain.
Matutuloy ang iskedyul sa pamamagitan ng home-and-away format ngayong Nobyembre.
