NAGSAMA-SAMA ang BDO Foundation, Department of Education (DepED) at Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) upang ilunsad ang Financial Literacy Program kung saan mahigit sa 24M na estudyante at 700,000 na guro ang makikinabang. Layunin ng programang ito na maituro kung paano magiging responsable sa paghawak ng pera ang mga public school teacher, non-teaching personnel at learners.
Ipinaliwanag ni DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones ang kahalagahan ng financial literacy. Ayon pa rito, napakaimportante ng financial literacy sa gaya nilang guro at mga learner. “It’s finding solution to the challenges that we face. Finding solutions to reaching the goals that we want to reach, what we want to be and what we want to do at the rest of our lives”.
Magandang development din umano ito, hindi lamang sa public-school system kundi sa educational system.
Idinagdag naman ni BDO Foundation Trustee Nestor Tan na bukod sa mga guro at estudyante, ang mga nangangailangan ng financial literacy ay ang mga OFW, maliliit na negosyante at maging ang mga magsasaka.
Ayon naman kay BSP Governor Nestor Espenilla Jr., magandang investment ito para sa future lalo pa’t 3 out of 7 Filipino adults lamang ang nakaaalam ng financial literacy. Dalawang porsiyento lamang din ang may grasp at isa ring paraan umano ito para sa paglago ng ekonomiya.
Ayon naman kay BDO Foundation President Mario Deriquito, may dalawang bagay kaya’t naging exciting ang nasabing programa: “The first is the carefully developed materials, which are expected to make learning and teaching financial literacy more fun, interesting, engaging, and effective. The second is the program’s potential for rapid rollout and scaling up within the DepEd system, which will enable us to reach all learners and teachers in the public schools as well as DepEd’s non-teaching personnel.”
Inaasahang masisimulan ang programa sa mga unang buwan ng School Year 2018-2019. Magiging accessible rin ito via DepEd’s learning portal (LRMDS). Hindi rin ito mangangailangan ng access sa internet dahil dadalhin ito sa mga paaralan via USB.
