NAIPAGPATULOY ni Iga Swiatek ng Poland ang kanyang dominasyon sa Parisian clay sa pagkopo ng ikatlong French Open crown sa nakalipas na apat na taon makaraang gapiin si unseeded Czech Karolina Muchova, 6-2 5-7 6-4, sa kapana-panabik na finals nitong Sabado.
Ito na ang ika-4 na Grand Slam title ni Swiatek, na natalo lamang ng dalawa sa 26 Grand Slam matches magmula nang umakyat sa world number one noong April ng nakaraang taon.
Ang 22-year-old ay naging pinakabatang female player na nanalo ng magkasunod na tropeo sa Roland Garros magmula nang magawa ito ni Monica Seles noong 1990-92.
Sinamahan din ng U.S. Open champion sina Seles at Naomi Osaka bilang tanging babae sa Open Era na nanalo sa bawat unang apat na major finals, subalit pinaghirapan niya ito laban sa determinadong si Muchova.
“First of all congratulations to Karolina,” sabi ni Swiatek, na naging unang player na matagumpay na naidepensa ang Roland Garros women’s singles title magmula nang magawa ito ni Justine Henin noong 2007.
“I knew it would be a tough match. I hope you’re going to have many more finals. Con- gratulations to your team. I know how much teams are important I wouldn’t be here without my team.
To my team, sorry for being such a pain in the… I’ll try to do bet- ter. I know we won this tournament, but it’s not easy. Being on tour for two weeks, it’s tough.
