GARCIA-GAVINA COACHING SETUP NILINAW NG ROS

NILINAW ng pamunuan ng Rain or Shine na si newly-installed head coach Chris Gavina ang gagawa ng plays at magbibigay ng mga instruksiyon para sa Elasto Painters makaraang kunin ni dating mentor Caloy Garcia ang oportunidad na maging bahagi ng Philippine men’s basketball training team program.

Sa layuning mabigyang linaw ang kani-kanilang papel, sinabi ni RoS Alternate Governor Edison Oribiana na si Gavina ang bahala sa ‘micro’ management ng koponan habang si Garcia, na itinalagang active consultant, ang magsasagawa ng ‘macro’ management dahil maglalaan din siya ng oras sa training at actual competition ng PH team.

Bukod sa Tokyo Olympic qualifiers sa Serbia, 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers na gaganapin sa Clark, Pampanga sa Hunyo at sa 2022 Asian Games sa Zhejiang China, inihahanda ng Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) ang PH team para sa co-hosting ng bansa sa 2023 World Cup.

“It means he will have less time to personally supervise the training and development of his mother team and with the unpredictable schedule of the tournaments there will be conflicts even with actual games of the PBA. We can’t tell him to just politely beg off because we are also an ardent supporter of our National Team ever since,” ani Oribiana.

“The designation of Coach Caloy was deliberated thoroughly by upper management. His mandate is very clear, he will take care of the ‘macro’  management of the team or the big picture,” the management said.

Sa ilalim ng bagong set-up, si Garcia ay maaari lamang magbigay ng payo at ang ‘real decision making’ ay nasa kamay ng  head coach.

“Being the Head of Basketball Operations and an Active Consultant does not mean he reports to himself. He reports to the Team Governor and the Team Owners,” dagdag pa ng management.

Ang RoS franchise ay pag-aari ng mga pamilya nina Raymund Yu at Terry Que.

Bilang ‘micro’ manager ng koponan, ang marching orders ni Gavina ang masusunod.

“He will be in-charge of the development of the team, he will be the one to create the system that will bring the team to greater heights. He will be the one calling the time outs and substituting the players. He will draw up plans on how to beat the other teams at every single game.” CLYDE MARIANO
