NABIGO sina swimmers Ernie Gawilan at Gary Bejino na makapasok sa finals ng kani-kanilang event sa Tokyo Paralympics nitong Lunes.

Tinapos ni Gawilan ang kanyang kampanya sa pamamagitan ng 10th place finish sa men’s 100-meter backstroke S7 event preliminary heats, kung saan ang  top eight swimmers lamang ang uusad sa medal race.

Naorasan ang 30-anyos na Filipino swimming bet ng one minute at 21.60 seconds sa preliminaries.

Aalis si Gawilan sa Tokyo bitbit ang hindi malilimutang stint makaraang maging unang Filipino swimmer na sumabak sa Paralympic swimming final noong Linggo, kung saan tumapos siya sa  sixth sa kanyang paboritong men’s 400-meter freestyle S7 event.

Lumahok din si Gawilan sa 200-meter individual medley S7 event, kung saan nabigong siyang makaabante sa finals.

Samantala, tumapos si Bejino sa 14th place mula sa 16 swimmers sa men’s 50-meter butterfly S6 event preliminary heats na may oras na 36.14 seconds.

Ito ang ikalawang sunod na   event na hindi nakapasok sa finals ang 25-year-old swimmer matapos ang kanyang  Paralympic debut sa 200-meter individual medley S6 preliminaries noong Aug. 26.

Si Bejino ay sasabak pa sa 400-meter freestyle S6 event sa Sept. 2 at sa 100-meter backstroke S6 event sa Sept. 3. CLYDE MARIANO
