BINAWASAN ng inter-agency Development Budget Coordinating Committee (DBCC) ang economic growth target para sa taong ito upang maging credible.
Ito ay inihayag ni Budget Secretary Wendel E. Avisado, DBCC chair, matapos ang 177th DBCC meeting na ginanap kahapon sa Department of Finance sa Pasay City,
Ayon kay Avisado, ang gross domestic product (GDP) growth target ay ibinaba sa 6.0 hanggang 6.5 percent para sa taong 2019 at 6.0 hanggang 7.0 percent target na itinakda noong ika- 176th DBCC meeting noong nakaraang Hulyo.
Base sa pinakahuling DBCC meeting, ang GDP target para sa 2020 hanggang 2022 ay inaasahang papalo mula 6.5 hanggang 7.5 percent kumpara sa kinalabasan noong meeting noong Hulyo na 6.5 hanggang 7.5 percent sa 2020, at 7.0 hanggang 8.0 percent para sa taong 2021 at 2022.
Samantala, sinabi naman ni National Economic and Development Authority Undersecretary Rosemarie Edillon na ang pagbabawas ng GDP target sa taong ito ay upang maging credible ito.
“For the year, we are actually proposing a tighter band because we really have the Q1, Q3 numbers but we still think that we are at the range of 6.0 to 6.5 percent. I think, you know, if we say it’s 6 to 7 (percent) then it’s no longer credible given that we already have the first three quarters.” sabi ni Edillon.
“Moving forward, we want to stick to prudent fiscal management and so looking also at the different tax reform programs that are there, the revenue projections and then we want to maintain a fiscal deficit to GDP ratio of 3.2 percent and also we want to also make sure that the debt does not balloon and so this one is actually consistent that growth is consistent with fiscal prudence,” dagdag pa ni Edillon.
Para sa unang tatlong quarters, ang GDP ay nag-average ng 5.8 percent makaraang magrehistro ng 5.6 percent sa first quarter, 5.5 percent sa second quarter, at 6.2 percent para sa third quarter. EVELYN QUIROZ
