UMAKYAT na sa P13.02 trillion ang utang ng Pilipi- nas hanggang noong Agos- to, ayon sa Bureau of the Treasury (BTr).

Mas mataas ito ng P133.64 billion o 1 percent kumpara sa P12.89 trillion noong Hulyo.

“The increment from the end-July 2022 level was attributed to the net issuance of domestic securities as well as currency adjustments,” paliwanag ng BTr.

Year-on-year, the running debt tally grew 11.8% from P11.642 trillion as of end-August 2021, while the year-to-date increment stood at 11% from P11.73 trillion as of end-December 2021.

Sa kabuuan, 68.7 percent ang domestic borrowings o P8.94 trillion.

“For August, the increase in domestic debt resulted from the net issuance of government securities amounting to P109.43 billion and the P1.78 billion impact of local currency depreciation against the US dollar,” ayon sa BTr.

Samantala, ang external debt ay nasa 31.3 percent o P4.08 trillion.

“For August, the increment in the level of external debt was due to the impact of local currency depreciation against the US dollar, amounting to P62.24 billion,” the BTr said.

Ang Pilipinas ay umutang nang malaki dahil sa COVID-19 pandemic ngunit sinabi ng mga economic manager na ibababa ng pamahalaan ang government debt-to-GDP ratio nito sa below 60-percent global standard sa ilalim ng administrasyon ni Presidente Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.

Ang debt-to-GDP ratio ay tumaas sa hanggang 63.5 percent ngunit nagkasya sa 62.1 percent sa pagtatapos ng Hunyo.
