PORMAL na nasikwat ni Filipina weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz ang kanyang puwesto sa Tokyo Olympics makaraang sumabak sa Asian Weightlifting Championships sa Tashkent, Uzbekistan kahapon.

Ang event ay ika-6 na Olympic qualifying event ni Diaz, na kumumpleto sa kanyang requirements para sa isang puwesto sa Tokyo Games.

Si Diaz ay lalahok sa Olympics sa ika-4 na pagkakataon matapos na sumabak noong  2008 sa Beijing,  2012 sa London at nagwagi ng silver sa Rio de Janeiro noong 2016.

Noong Marso 2020 pa sana nagkuwalipika si Diaz sa Olympics subalit dahil sa COVID-19 pandemic ay natigil ang halos lahat ng sports noong nakaraang taon.

Si Diaz ay ika-7 Filipino athlete na nakapasok sa Tokyo Games, at sinamahan sina boxers Eumir Marcial, Irish Magno, Nesthy Petecio at Carlo Paalam, gymnast Caloy Yulo, at  pole vaulter EJ Obiena.

Bukod kay  Diaz, may walong iba pang Filipino weightlifters sa Asian event na kinabibilangan  nina 2020 IWF Online Youth World Cup gold medalist Vanessa Sarno, Roma World Cup podium finisher John Fabuar Ceniza, 2019 Southeast Asian Games gold medalist Kristel Macrohon, Elreen Ann Ando, Mary Flor Diaz, Margaret Colonia, John Dexter Tabique, at  Elien Rose Perez.
