IDINEPENSA ni Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III ang infrastructure program ng pamahalaan sa gitna ng mga panawagan ng ilang kritiko na i-realign ang pondo para rito sa pagtugon sa COVID-19.
Sa kaagahan ng taon ay nanawagan ang mga grupo ng mga manggagawa sa pamahalaan na ipagpaliban ang ilang infrastructure projects, at gamitin ang pondo sa paglaban sa COVID-19.
Nitong linggo ay hiniling din sa gobyerno ng ilan sa pinakamalalaking business groups sa bansa na tugunan ang problema sa transportasyon, na nakaaapekto umano sa pagbangon ng ekonomiya, sa halip na unahin ang mga infrastructure project na hindi naman agad na magagamit.
“The Duterte administration maintained a prudent deficit level notwithstanding our large investments in the Build, Build, Build program, which is the President’s main strategy to help Filipinos lift themselves out of poverty,” sabi ni Dominguez.
“Last year, despite the effects of the pandemic, we were able to maintain our infrastructure expenditures at 4.8 percent of GDP.”
