INAPRUBAHAN ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang pagdaragdag ng pork imports para mapunan ang kakulangan sa local supply dahil sa African swine fever (ASF) outbreaks.
Ayon sa Executive Order 133 ni Duterte, ang ASF ay kumalat na sa 437 munisipalidad at nabawasan ang swine inventory ng bansa ng 3 million heads o 24.1 percent mula noong nakaraang taon hanggang 2021.
Ang pork shortage ngayong taon ay tinatayang nasa 388,790 metric tons (MT).
Ayon sa Pangulo, hindi pa inaaksiyunan ng Kongreso ang kahilingan niya na dagdagan ang minimum access volume (MAV) para sa pork. Ang MAV ay ang dami ng agricultural product na maaaring angkatin na may mababang taripa.
“It is imperative to immediately address the current supply gap in pork meat, to provide consumers with adequate and affordable food, and to lower inflation,” pahayag ni Duterte sa kautusan na kanyang nilagdaan noong Lunes.
Itinaas ni Duterte ang MAV ng pork ngayong taon sa 254,210 MT mula 54,210 MT, “provided that the balance at the end of 2021 shall not be carried over to 2022.”
