MAHIGIT sa P33 million na halaga ng local at foreign currencies ang nakumpiska ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) magmula noong 2020.

Sa report ng Intelligence Group-Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (IG-CIIS), nasa P33,128,870 halaga ng iba’t ibang currencies ang nasabat mula 2020 hanggang July 14, 2021.

Ang mga nasamsam na currencies ay nagmula sa Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, at US, partikular sa North Carolina, New Jersey, Tennessee, Colorado, at California.

Ang mga ito ay natagpuan sa bagahe ng mga pasahero o sa parcel shipments na idineklara bilang personal documents, correspondence, magazines at mga libro.

“The seized currencies were subjected to seizure and forfeiture proceedings in violation of Sections 1400 (Misdeclaration) and 1113 of R.A. No. 10863 (CMTA) in relation to the R.A. 7653 (New Central Bank Act) and BSP Foreign Exchange Transaction Manual,” sabi ng BOC.

Ayon sa BOC, ang mga biyahero ay kailangang kumuha ng prior written authorization mula sa Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) para makapagdala ng local currency na hihigit sa P50,000.

Samantala, ang anumang halaga na sobra sa US$10,000 o katumbas nito sa ibang currencies ay kailangang ideklara sa BOC gamit ang Customs Baggage Declaration Form at Foreign Currency Declaration Form. FROILAN MORALLOS
