OLYMPIC, SEAG ATHLETES PASOK SA VACCINATION PRIORITY LIST

PINASALAMATAN ng Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) ang pamahalaan sa pag-apruba sa kahilingan nito na isaprayoridad ang national athletes at coaches sa pagbakuna kontra COVID-19.

“The entire sports community can now heave a sigh of relief with this approval,” wika ni POC President Rep. Abraham ‘Bambol’ Tolentino.

“With this good news, our athletes can now look forward to serious training and preparations for two major competitions.”

Inanunsiyo ni Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque kahapon na pinayagan ng Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases ang maagang pagbakuna sa national athletes at coaches na sasabak sa Tokyo Olympics at sa Hanoi 31st Southeast Asian Games.

Ang Olympics ay gaganapin sa July 23 hanggang August 8 habang ang SEA Games ay nakatakda sa November 21-December 2.

Isinama ng IATF ang national athletes, coaches, delegates at officials sa parehong events sa Priority Group A4.

“Bring home the gold from Tokyo,” sabi ni Roque sa pag-anunsiyo sa pag-apruba ng IATF.

Pinasalamatan ni Tolentino ang IATF sa mabilis nitong pagtugon sa kahilingan ng POC sa isang liham na ipinadala kay Health Secretary Francisco Duque III nitong Mayo 18.

Sa kasalukuyan ay walong Pinoy ang pasok na sa Olympics ngunit si boxer Eumir Felix Marcial pa lamang ang nakatanggap na ng dalawang doses ng bakuna habang nasa US siya. Si weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz ay may first shot na sa Malaysia, dalawang linggo na ang nakalilipas.

Ang iba pang Tokyo-bound athletes—gymnast Carlos Yulo, rower Cris Niervaez, pole vaulter EJ Obiena and boxers Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam at Irish Magno— ang hindi pa nababalunahan. Maliban kay Nievarez, ang lahat ay naka-base sa ibang bansa.

Target ng POC na makapagpadala ng 626 athletes na sasabak sa 39 sa 40 sports na paglalabanan sa Hanoi SEA Games.

Ayon kay Roque, pinayagan din ng IATF ang bubble-type training ng athletes at  coaches subalit kailangang sumunod sa guidelines ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Games and Amusements Board (GAB) at Department of Health (DOH).
