NAGLAAN ang Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) ng P46.230 million para palakasin ang  kampanya ng bansa sa nalalapit na Tokyo Olympics.

Ang halaga ay inaprubahan sa PSC board meeting alinsunod sa panukalang budget ng Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).

Sinabi ni PSC Chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez na masaya ang sports agency na tanggapin at aprubahan ang naturang kahilingan at iginiit ang commitment ng  PSC na suportahan ang pagsisikap ng national team na ipadala ang pinaka-mahusay na contingent sa Tokyo Olympics sa Hulyo.

Saklaw ng budget ang international airfare, hotel and accommodation at allowances ng mga atleta at opisyal, gayundin ang COVID-19 testing bago ang kanilang pag-alis,   hotel quarantine expenses at insurance para sa COVID-19 treatment, travel at repatriation ng buong Philippine delegation.

Hindi kasama sa  proposal ng POC ang budget sa iba pang items tulad ng  flags, flaglets at pins, luggages, at parade uniforms na kakailanganin sa opening at  closing parade.

“The P46.230-million assistance is still subject to adjustment based on the actual participation of Filipino athletes, coaches and officials in Tokyo and to accounting and auditing rules,” ayon sa PSC.

Sa kasalukuyan ay siyam na Filipino athletes na ang opisyal na pasok sa Olympics — pole vault ace EJ Obiena, weight-lifter Hidilyn Diaz, gymnast Carlos Yulo at  boxers Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, Irish Magno at Eumir Marcial, taekwondo jin Kurt Barbosa at rower Cris Nievarez.

Inaasahan na rin ang pagkuwalipika nina 2021 US Open golf champion Yuka Saso at fellow golfers Bianca Pagdanganan at Juvic Pagunsan, at skateboarder Margielyn Didal. sa July 23-Aug. 8 Summer Games.

Target nilang lahat na makopo ang kauna-unahang gold medal ng bansa sa Olympics. CLYDE MARIANO
