BIBIGYANG-PARANGAL ni Presidente Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang tagumpay ng medal winners ng bansa sa 19th Asian Games, sa isang seremonya sa Rizal Memorial Coliseum sa Manila ngayong hapon.
Tinawag na “Gabi ng Parangal at Pasasalamat para sa Bayaning Atletang Pilipino,” ang grand heroes’ welcome ay tatampukan ng video presentations at production numbers para itampok ang mga kuwento at sakripisyo ng national athletes at kanilang mga coach.
Makikibahagi rin ang Pangulo sa awarding ng Presidential citation at iba pang mga insentibo.
“This celebration is a testament to the national government’s unwavering support to each of our national athletes.
We thank the President for personally coming over here at the historic Rizal Memorial Coliseum to honor our medalist, their coaches and their families,” pahayag ni PSC Chairman Richard Bachmann.
Ang Team Philippines ay nag-uwi ng 4 gold, 2 silver, at 12 bronze medals sa two-week continental sports spectacle mula September 23 hanggang October 8, kung saan nagwagi si EJ Obiena ng gold sa pole vault, nagreyna sina Meggie Ochoa at Annie Ramirez sa jiu-jitsu, at tinapos ng Gilas Pilipinas ang 62 taong championship drought sa men’s basketball sa Asiad.
Bibigyang-pugay rin sina silver medalists Eumir Felix Marcial ng boxing at Arnel Mandal ng wushu, kasama sina bronze medalists’ Patrick King Perez ng taekwondo, Jones Inso, Gideon Padua at Clemente Tabugara Jr. ng wushu, Alex Eala at Francis Alcantara ng tennis, Patrick Coo ng cycling, Elreen Ando ng weightlifting, Kaila Napolis ng jiu-jitsu, Sakura Alforte ng karate, at ang men’s sepak takraw team.
Ang Gilas Pilipinas team ay pangungunahan sa event sina Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president Al Panlilio, PBA chairman Ricky Vargas, PBA commissioner Willie Marcial, PBA vice chairman Bobby Rosales at SMC sports director at Brgy. Ginebra governor Alfrancis Chua, ang Gilas team manager.
Inaasahang dadalo rin sa okasyon sina SBP chairman emeritus Manny V. Pangilinan, Chairman ng Metro Pacific Investments Corp., at Ramon S. Ang, President and CEO ng San Miguel Corporation.
