IDINAOS ng Association of Boxing Alliances in the Philippines (ABAP) ang regular elections nito virtually noong Huwebes at nagkakaisang pinili si long-time executive director at secretary-general Ed Picson bilang bago nitong presidente.
Ninomina ni outgoing president Ricky Vargas, ang chief architect ng three-medal haul ng boxing sa Tokyo Olympics ngayong taon, at kinuha ang ABAP chairmanship, si Picson.
“I am honored to turn the baton over to Ed as my successor. He is the most qualified and deserving for the position. Ed is a principled and honest man who believes in good governance, cares very much for our boxers and is hands on. I am confident he will bring ABAP to the next level,” sabi ni Vargas.
Nahalal din unanimously sina Deputy Speaker Robbie Puno bilang vice president at dating Congressman Raul Daza bilang vice chairman.
Sa kanyang panig, sinabi ni Picson, isang veteran sportscaster at newspaper columnist, na, “I am humbled by the trust and confidence reposed in me. The results in the last Olympics, where Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam won silvers and Eumir Marcial got bronze, will be a tough act to follow. But our boxers, coaches and support staff assure me they are all up to the task. We vow not to let the country down.”
Alinsunod sa bylaws ng National Sports Association, ang secretary-general at treasurer ay itatalaga ng incoming president.
Ayon kay Picson, gagawin niya ito sa kanilang unang board meeting ngayong linggo.
