KINOKONSIDERA ng Department of Transportation (DOTr) na unti-unting dagdagan ang public transport capacity kasunod ng pagluluwag ng quarantine restrictions.
Ayon kay Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade, sinimulan na ng ahensiya ang mga pag-aaral sa kung paano tataasan ang public transport capacity na hindi makokompromiso ang health safety standards.
“Naumpisahan na ‘yan, mayroon na kaming tinatawag na pag-aaral at a-approach kami sa IATF na kung puwede dagdagan, say 5%, 10%, and we make it gradual,” anang kalihim.
Aniya, nakahanda ang public transport stakeholders na magdagdag ng capacity, subalit ang final decision ay manggagaling sa Inter-agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).
Sa kasalukuyan, ang public transport ay may 50% capacity habang nananatili ang Metro Manila at mga karatig-lalawigan ng Manila, Cavite, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan sa ilalim ng general community quarantine (GCQ).
Nauna na ring inatasan ng DOTr ang EDSA consortium na magdagdag ng bus unit upang mas maraming pasahero ang maser-bisyuhan.
Ito’y kasunod ng napaulat na napakahabang pila ng mga pasahero na nag-aabang ng bus noong nakaraang Biyernes.
Ayon kay Transportation Asst. Sec. Goddess Libiran, bukod sa pagbuhos noon ng ulan, marami talagang pasahero ang tumatangkilik ng Libreng Sakay ng EDSA carousel kaya napakahaba noon ng pila lalo’t rush hour.
