Inanunsiyo ng Magnolia Hotshots veteran ang kangyang pagreretiro sa PBA noong Martes ng gabi sa pagsusulat ng mahaba at emotional post sa kanyang Instagram account.
Sinamahan ni Pingris ang kanyang retirement post ng isang one-minute clip na nagpapakita sa kanya bilang isang bata na lumaki sa Pozzorubio, Pangasinan hanggang sa kanyang paglalakbay sa Asia’s first ever play-for-pay league at bilang isa sa mga bayani ng Gilas Pilipinas.
Itinuring ni Pingris ang kanyang sarili bilang top defensive player sa kanyang buong career, isang katangian na nagbigay sa kanya ng kabuuang siyam na championships, tampok ang pambihirang grand slam noong 2014 sa Purefoods franchise.
Isang three-time Defensive Player of the Year at eighth-time member ng All-Defensive team, ang dating PSBA stalwart ay nag-iwan din ng marka sa kasaysayan ng Philippine basketball nang maglaro siya sa Gilas Pilipinas qualifying sa FIBA World Cup sa unang pagkakataon sa loob ng 36 taon kasunod ng dramatic 86-79 victory ng national team kontra South Korea sa 2013 FIBA Asia Cup semifinals sa Manila.

Naging bahagi ng PBA’s 40 Greatest Players, pinasalamatan din ni Pingris ang kanyang pamilya at mga minamahal, kabilang ang kanyang asawang si Danica at mga anak na sina Mic at Cael, dating coaches, teammates, at laha ng team personnel na kanyang nakatrabaho sa kanyang PBA journey.
