HINIMOK ni House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano ang mga kritiko at sumusuporta sa ABS-CBN na magsumite sa Kamara ng kani-kanilang position papers o komento kaugnay sa hinihirit na franchise renewal ng nasabing radio-television network.
Ayon kay Cayetano, mino-monitor niya ang mga komento sa mainstream at maging sa social media na sumasang-ayon gayundin ang tutol sa pagpapaliwig ng prangkisa ng kontrobersiyal na himpilan na sana’y pormal umanong mapaabot sa House Committee on Legislative Franchises.
“So, what I request is we join the issues. All those opposed to renewing the franchise, submit your comments to the House committee on legislative franchises, which will forward these to ABS-CBN so they can already respond. That’s the way our democracy works,” apela ng House Speaker.
Hinggil naman sa ‘quo warranto petition’ na inihain ni Solicitor General Jose Calida sa Korte Suprema, sinabi ni Cayetano na para sa kanya ay hindi na ito dapat ginawa, subalit sa kabilang banda ay mainam na rin na napag-uusapan sa ngayon ng mga tao.
“As for me, I am open-minded. I have read the reply of ABS-CBN to the SolGen and I am waiting for their official comment. I think this is the way to find a solution. Welcome the issues against ABS-CBN, but also welcome their reply. So that we can finally get somewhere with all of these,” ani Cayetano.
Kaugnay nito, binigyan-diin pa ni Cayetano na hindi dapat maiugnay sa usapin ng ‘Press Freedom’ sa bansa ang isyu ng ABS-CBN franchise.
“If press freedom is automatic, then there should be no more hearings in Congress. We will just have to grant it automatically. But no, Congress has to legislate it…this is not an open-close case of press freedom,” giit niya. ROMER BUTUYAN
