BINABAAN ng economic team ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang growth forecasts para sa taon sa gitna ng nagpapatuloy na COVID-19 pandemic.

Ayon sa Development Budget Coordination Committee (DBCC), sa kanilang pagtaya, ang ekonomiya ay lalago ng 6-7% ngayong 2021, mas mabagal sa naunang target na 6.5-7.5%, kasunod ng nagpatuloy na recession sa unang tatlong buwan ng taon.

Sinabi ng cabinet-level body ng mga economic manager na binabaan nila ang forecast dahil sa pagpasok sa bansa ng COVID-19 variants at sa muling pagpapatupad ng mas mahigpit na quarantine measures.

Ito ang pinakahuling revision sa pagtaya ng DBCC, na noong nakaraang taon ay nagbigay ng projection na 8-10 percent growth rate para sa 2021.

Nauna rito ay sinabi ni Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Chua na may panahon pa ang bansa para matamo ng pamahalaan ang 6.5-7.5 percent growth target.

Samantala, sa pagtaya ng Asian Development Bank (ADB), ang ekonomiya ng Filipinas ay lalago ng 4.5 percent ngayong taon at 5.5 percent sa 2022.

Ang local economic output ay bumagsak ng 4.2% mula Enero hanggang Marso, kung saan ito ang ika-5 sunod na quarter na nagkaroon ng contraction.

Noong huling linggo ng Marso ay muling isinailalim sa lockdowns ang Metro Manila at mga karatig-probinsya na sentro ng kalakalan sa bansa para mapigilan ang pagkalat pa ng COVID-19.
