NASA lima na lamang sa kada 10 Filipono ang gumagamit ng cash sa bansa bunsod ng nagpapatuloy na COVID-19 pandemic, ayon sa pag-aaral ng global payments technology company Visa.

Sa isang virtual press briefing, sinabi ni Visa country manager for the Philippines and Guam Dan Wolbert na isinagawa ang pag-aaral noong October 2020 sa pamamagitan ng isang online questionnaire sa 1,014 Filipinos na may edad 18 hanggang 65 sa Manila, Cebu, Cavite, Quezon, Laguna, Rizal, Bulacan, Davao del Sur, Pampanga, Negros Occidental, Batangas, Cagayan de Oro, Iloilo, Baguio at Davao upang i-assess ang consumer payment trends at interest sa paggamit ng bagong payment solutions.

“This trend of consumers carrying less cash is similar in other Southeast Asia countries,” wika ni Wolbert.

Batay sa ginawang pag-aaral ng Visa’s Consumer Payment Attitudes, tumaas ng halos 66 porsiyento ang bilang ng mga Filipinong pumipili sa contactless payments o digital payments.

Indikasyon ito na mayorya sa mga Filipono ang naniniwalang mas ligtas ang paggamit ng contactless payments mula sa pagkakahawa sa COVID-19.

“Filipinos cited using more contactless payments at 73%, perceiving cash as unsafe because of the potential spread of infection at 54%, and more places adopting digital payments at 50% as the top reasons for carrying less cash.

In addition, Filipinos see bill payments at 81%, grocery shopping at 71%, and overseas travel at 68% as the top categories where they would likely go completely cashless in future,” ayon pa sa pag-aaral.

Lumitaw rin sa pag-aaral na 88 porsiyento ng mga Filipino na hindi gumamit ng contactless payments ang nagpahayag ng interes sa paggamit ng naturang payment method sa hinaharap.

Ang mga pangunahing benepisyo na nakikita ng mga Filipino sa paggamit ng contactless cards ay hindi na sila kailangang magdala ng cash sa 88%, pagiging ligtas sa infection sa 75%, at pagiging isang innovative payment method sa 68%.

“Based on Visa’s data, contactless transactions have been increasing steadily month-on-month in the Philippines since August last year. We believe that contactless payments will continue to grow as Filipinos appreciate the benefits of contactless payments, including perceiving this payment method to be more hygienic due to the absence of physical interaction at point-of-sale,” ani Wolbert.

“Even though we’ve made progress in digital payments adoption, there remains huge opportunities for us to encourage more Filipinos to embrace digital payments as we look to expand digital payments acceptance across the country,” dagdag pa niya.
