UMAASA si Trade Sec­retary Ramon Lopez na maisasagawa ang susunod na trade and investment dialogue sa China ngayong taon.

Ang huling diyalogo ng dalawang bansa ay noong 2017.

“Even with the pandemic, we’re looking forward to the convening of the 29th Philippines-China Joint Commission on Economic and Technical Cooperation (JCETC) at the soonest possible time this year through videoconference,” sabi ni Lopez sa kanyang speech sa Association of Philippines-China Understanding forum nitong linggo.

Hangad ni Lopez na mapalakas ang economic ties sa pagitan ng Filipinas at ng China sa harap ng pagbangon ng bansa mula sa mga epekto ng pandemya.

“(W)e hope that you will partner with us to build back better towards a better and brighter post-Covid future. And through the jobs and employment generated by the business and investments you bring in, the Filipino people will also gain a more comfortable and higher quality of life as promised by our President Rodrigo Roa Duterte,” dagdag pa ng kalihim.

Sa nakalipas na dalawang taon, ang China ay second largest investment partner ng bansa.

Sa datos mula sa Chinese Ministry of Commerce, sinabi ni Lopez na ang project contracts na nilagdaan ng Chinese enterprises sa Filipinas ay tumaas ng 27.9 percent sa nakalipas na tatlong taon.

Noong 2019, ang newly-signed contracts ay tumaas ng 102 percent sa USD6.4 billion, at pumalo sa USD9.59 billion noong nakaraang taon.

Hindi naman nagbigay si Lopez ng karagdagang impormasyon sa susunod na JCETC. PNA
