MAGSASAGUPA ang fabled rivals La Salle at Ateneo ngayong alas-6 p.m. ng gabi sa tampok na laro sa quadruple-header sa UAAP men’s basketball tournament sa Mall of Asia Arena.
Katuparan ng pangarap para kay bagong Green Archers coach Topex Robinson ang makaharap ang Blue Eagles sa hindi pangkaraniwang weekday elimination round rivalry game.
“When I was growing up, I used to watch that rivalry and now I’m just excited for that. Sabi ko nga, it came in so early but whether we like it or not, we’re gonna face each other,” sabi ni Robinson makaraang simulan ng La Salle ang season sa 87-76 panalo kontra Far Eastern University noong Linggo.
“Obviously, there’s a lot of hype, a lot of stories behind the game, but at the end of the day, Ateneo’s a worthy rival. That will never change. Coach Tab Baldwin is a worthy rival. We’ll always compete against each other and it’s just an opportunity for me to get better learning from coach Tab and Ateneo,” dagdag pa niya.
Ang Blue Eagles ay sasagupa sa Green Archers na galing sa opening day loss.
Natalo ang Ateneo sa kanilang season opener sa unang pagkakataon magmula noong 2018 kasunod ng 64-77 defeat sa preseason favorite National University noong nakaraang Sabado.
“I think the words that mean so much to Ateneans, ‘One Big Fight,’ the word ‘fight,’ was left out today, and that’s inexcusable,” sabi ni coach Tab Baldwin.
“We should be – and we are – very disappointed in our performance,” dagdag pa niya.
