WOMEN’S SUMMIT IKINASA NG SBP

PINAGSAMA-SAMA ng Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) ang iba’t ibang stakeholders para sa SBP Women’s Summit na idinaos noong April 12, 2024 sa Marco Polo Hotel Ortigas upang talakayin ang kinabukasan ng women’s basketball sa bansa.

Sinimulan ni SBP Executive Director Erika Dy ang talakayan hinggil sa pagtutulungan upang makabuo ng isang elite women’s basketball league na magbibigay benepisyo sa top female basketball players sa bansa.

“There’s no problem with regards to the competitiveness of college basketball in the country for women, the problem is aNer college. Where do these players go? Where can they play if they don’t make it to the naEonal team? Kung wala tayong league, we won’t see the late-bloomers, sayang din talaga,” sabi ng SBP Executive Director.

Inilatag ni coach Pat Aquino ang future plans para sa Gilas Women na may ultimate goal na makapasok sa 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Dumalo rin ang mga player mula sa  national team tulad nina Afril Bernardo, Camille Nolasco, Andrea Tongco at Louna Ozar.

“With what’s happening in the world of women’s basketball right now, with the US NCAA, let’s try to follow what is happening there. It also affected us here with the tryouts that we held. We had more than a hundred girls trying out for the Gilas team,” wika ng women’s national team coach.
