TARGET ni Agriculture Secretary William Dar na palawakin ang agricultural exports ng bansa, partikular ang coconut products, sa Germany.
Sa isang virtual meeting noong Miyerkoles ay tinalakay nina Dar at German Ambassador to the Philippines Anke Reiffenstuel ang agricultural cooperation at trade sa pagitan ng Filipinas at ng Germany sa food import situation ng huli.
“Balance of trade is in favor of the Philippines, with tuna, banana chips, pineapples and desiccated coconut as the Philippines’ top four agri exports to Germany,” sabi ni Dar.
Hinikakat ng kalihim ang Germany na palawakin ang importasyon nito ng Philippine agricultural products, partikular ang coco sugar, ready-to-drink coco milk, coco water, at organic extra virgin coconut oil.
Ayon kay Dar, ang Germany ay isa sa leading partners ng bansa sa agricultural exports.
Sa January 2020 report ng Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), ang Germany ay susunod sa Netherlands bilang major trading partner sa export sa hanay ng European Union (EU) member countries.
“Exports of agricultural goods to EU member countries in the third quarter of 2019 amounted to USD265.39 million or a share of 12.5 percent to the country’s total exports which was USD5.06 billion,” ayon sa DA.
Sa EU member countries, ang Netherlands ang top buyer ng agricultural commodities ng bansa. Sumusunod ang Germany na may exports value na USD30.07 million at UK at Northern Ireland na may USD25.14 million.
Nagpasalamat din si Dar sa Germany sa pagpapatuloy ng trade relations sa Filipinas sa kabila ng nagpapatuloy na pandemya.
Bukod sa coconut products at by-products, binanggit din ng agri chief ang heirloom rice, pili oil (for cosmetic use), pili nut, pineapple concentrate, at cashew nuts bilang potential export champions. PNA
