OPISYAL nang sinimulan kahapon ang MRT-3 Rehabilitation Project kung saan target na gawing 20 mula sa 15 ang operating trains, ayon sa Department of Transportation (DOTr).
Sinabi ng DOTr na opisyal na ipinagkaloob ng MRT3 Maintenance Transition Team (MTT) ang overall rehabilitation and maintenance works sa Sumitomo-Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI)-TES Philippines (TESP) noong Martes.
Pinangunahan ni DOTr Undersecretary for Railways Timothy John Batan ang ceremonial turnover ng mga dokumento.
Ang rehabilitation and maintenance works ay nakatakdang isagawa sa electromechanical components, power supply system, rail tracks, depot equipment, elevators at escalators ng MRT-3 sa lahat ng estasyon nito.
Isasailalim din sa pagsusuri at pagkukumpuni ang 72 light rail vehicles (LRVs) bilang bahagi ng rehabilitation project.
“The rehabilitation is projected to finish within the first 26 months of the 43-month rehabilitation and maintenance contract,” ayon pa sa DOTr.
“Within this period, aside from adding the number of operating trains, the MRT3 will also aim to double the train operating speed to 60 kilometers per hour and cut the travel time between trains by half, from the current 7-10 minutes down to 3.5 minutes,” dagdag pa nito.
