TUMAAS ang government spending sa infrastructure noong Agosto sa pagpapatupad ng road at transportation projects, ayon sa datos ng Department of Budget and Management (DBM).
Umakyat ang infrastructure at capital outlays sa P70.9 billion sa naturang buwan o mas mataas ng 60.2% kumpara sa P44.3 billion na naitala sa kaparehong panahon noong nakaraang taon.
Dahil dito ay pumalo na ang infrastructure disbursements ng gobyerno sa P570.4 billion ngayong taon — tumaas ng 44.6% mula sa kaparehong eight-month period noong 2020.
Ayon sa DBM kabilang sa pangunahing salik sa pagtaas ang pagpapatupad ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) ng road infrastructure projects.
“These pertain to the construction, completion, repair, rehabilitation or improvement of government buildings; access, by-pass and diversion roads; bridges; along with flood mitigation structures and drainage systems.”
Nakapag-ambag din sa mas mataas na spending noong Agosto ang implementasyon ng aviation sector infrastructure projects ng Department of Transportation (DOTr), partikular ang Tacloban, Kalibo, at Bukidnon Airport Projects.
Sa kabuuan, ang paggastos noong Agosto ay tumaas ng 34.2% sa P380.2 billion. Dahil dito ay tumaas ang cumulative spending ngayong 2021 sa P2.96 trillion, na tumaas ng 10.9%.
Sinabi ng DBM na umaasa itong mapananatili ang momentum ng spending growth sa nalalabing bahagi ng taon kahit sa ibang expense items tulad ng tax subsidies, interest payments, at net lending assistance sa state corporations.
“Infrastructure and other capital expenditures will continue to drive government disbursements for the remaining months as payables for completed and partially completed infrastructure activities become due and demandable, alongside the regular operating expenditures of various line departments,” anang ahensiya.
