SUMAKABILANG-BUHAY na si Celso ‘Cito’  Dayrit, isang longtime sports leader at dating presidente ng Philippine Olympic Committee (POC).

Kinumpirma ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) ang pagpanaw ni Dayrit, na humawak ng maraming posisyon sa iba’t ibang local at international sports organizations.

“Philippine sports lost a wise man today. He is one of my very first friends in sports and I have always admired his deep understanding of Olympism and sports dynamics in the country. He will be truly missed,” wika ni PSC Chairman ‘Butch’ Ramirez sa isang statement.

Batay sa mga report, si Dayrit ay namatay dahil sa COVID-19. Siya ay 69 taong gulang.

Si Dayrit ay nagsilbing PSC commissioner noong 1993 at nahirang bilang POC president noong 1994, kung saan hinawakan niya ang posisyon sa loob ng 10 taon.

Isang champion fencer, si Dayrit ang presidente ng  Fencing Confederation of Asia nang sumakabilang-buhay.

Noong 2006 ay ginawaran siya ng  Olympic Merit Award. Nagsilbi rin siya sa Executive Committee ng International Fencing Federation, na itinuring siya bilang isang honorary member.
