TUMAAS ang net inflows ng foreign direct investments (FDI) ng 20.2% noong Pebrero kumpara sa kaparehong buwan noong nakaraang taon, ayon sa Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).
Ang FDI ay ang investments na isinagawa ng mga dayuhang kompanya o indibidwal sa Filipinas.
Sa datos na ipinalabas ng BSP, ang FDI inflows ay sumirit sa $746 million noong Pebrero mula sa $621 million na naitala year-on-year.
“Investment inflows continued as investors remain confident in the Philippine economy on the back of strong economic growth prospects and sound macroeconomic fundamentals,” pahayag ng BSP.
Ayon sa central bank, ang net equity capital investments ay may malaking naiambag sa pagtaas ng FDI net inflows sa naturang panahon, na umangat ng 141.7% sa $233 million mula sa $96 million.
“This was due to the 126.3% increase in equity capital placements toS$258 million that were sourced mainly from Japan, China, the United States, Singapore, and Switzerland,” anang BSP.
Ang equity capital investments noong Pebrero ay pinadaloy sa transportation and storage; financial and insurance; manufactur-ing; real estate; and professional, scientific, at technical industries.
Samantala, ang reinvestment of earnings ay lumago ng 13.7% sa $79 million mula sa US$69 million.
Nagtala naman ang non-residents’ placements sa debt instruments na inisyu ng local affiliates o intercompany borrowings ng mas mababang net inflows na $435 million mula sa $455 million noong Pebrero 2018.
Ang pinakabagong FDI figures ay naghatid sa January-February level sa net inflow na $1.4 billion.
Gayunman, ang lebel na ito ay mas mababa ng 15.7% kumpara sa $1.6 billion net inflows na naitala sa kahalintulad na panahon noong nakaraang taon.
“The decrease in FDI net inflows during the period was due mainly to the 67.1 percent decline in non-residents’ net equity capi-tal investments as placements decreased by 31.5%, while withdrawals grew by 236.5%.”
Karamihan sa equity capital placements sa January-February period ay nagmula sa Japan, China, South Korea, Mauritius, at United States.
