(Hiniling kay PBBM) SALARY HIKE SA PRIVATE SCHOOL TEACHERS

NAIS ng Alliance of Concerned Teachers Private Schools na ihayag ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. sa kanyang darating na State of the Nation Address (SONA) ang pagtatakda ng minimum salary standard para sa private school teachers na katumbas ng entry-level salary ng public schools. 

“We perform the same duties and make the same valuable contributions in molding the future of the youth and our nation, therefore, private school teachers only deserve to be paid with what is received by our counterparts in public schools. As the Constitution regards private schools as State partners in delivering accessible and quality education, the government has the obligation to protect the rights and welfare of private school teachers,” pahayag ni Jonathan Geronimo, secretary-general ng ACT Private Schools.

Ayon sa grupo, lumabas sa survey sa mga guro sa 73 private schools sa buong bansa mula June 5 hanggang 30, 2023 na karamihan sa kanila ay tumatanggap ng mababang suweldo.

Lumitaw pa sa survey na 64.2 percent ng mga respondent ang tumatanggap ng monthly salaries na mas mababa sa entry-level pay ng public school teachers na P27,000.

Ayon pa sa grupo, ang starting salary ng mga guro sa 58 porsiyento ng private schools ay mas mababa sa minimum wage ng mga manggagawa sa Metro Manila.

“For the longest time, our private school teachers have been enduring such abject situation due to the excessive deregulation of the private school system and the lack of protection and support from the government. It is high time for the government to make pro-active steps to improve our conditions,” ani Geronimo.

Lumabas din sa sur- vey na ang problema sa mababang suweldo ay nar- aranasan sa lahat ng uri ng eskuwelahan.

“Our survey shows that even large, very large and mega schools pay salary rates lower than the public schools. With a law that ensures minimum salary standards for private school teachers, the government can identify and require capable schools to pay appropriately, and provide salary subsidies to teachers in pri- vate schools which cannot afford the same,” dagdag pa ni Geronimo.
