DAHIL sa hindi matantiyang quarantine protocols sa NCR Plus area ay lumiit ang pag-asa ng Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) na buksan ang fourth season nito sa susunod na buwan.

Inamin ni Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes na sa patuloy na pagtaas ng mga kaso ng COVID-19 ay nahihirapan ang mga member team na simulan ang kanilang pag-eensayp para sa planong June 12 opener, lalo’t ang scrimmages at contact sports ay hindi pinapayagan sa mga lugar na nasa ilallm ng Modified Enhance Community Quarantine (MECQ).

Gayunman, sinabi ng MPBL chief na nag-aadjust ngayon ang liga sa aplikasyon nito para sa pagpapatuloy ng operasyon sa Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF).

Sa kabila ng ‘uncertainties’, sjnabi ng commissioner na  19 teams ang kumpirmadong lalahok sa bagong season, kabilang ang baguhangbNegros Occidental.

Tulad noong nakaraang season, sinabi ni Duremdes na plano ng liga na idaos ang mga laro sa isang bubble setup sa Subic, kung saan nito idinaos ang mga nalalabing matches sa conference finals, at ang best-of-five title series sa pagitan ng San Juan Knights at ng bagong kampeon na Davao Occidental Tigers.

“Alam natin na ‘yung place is secured and safe. Nakita na rin naman natin dahil nakapaglaro na tayo ng championship (doon),” dagdag ni Duremdes. CLYDE MARIANO
