NASA P328.6 billion ang naitalang investments mula sa Information technology and business process outsourcing (IT-BPO) companies sa Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) sa nakalipas na dalawang dekada.
Sa kanyang personal social media account, sinabi ni PEZA deputy director general Tereso Panga na ang investments na ito ng IT-BPO firms sa ecozones ay nakalikom ng USD11.5 billion sa export revenues at lumikha ng 962,304 direct jobs sa loob ng mahigit 20 taon.
Magmula noong 2000, sinimulan ng PEZA na irehistro ang IT parks and centers at IT-BPO locators.
Hanggang noong November 2021 ay may 297 IT parks and centers at 1,273 IT-BPO companies na nakarehistro sa ecozone.
“The IT-BPO has become one of the country’s dominant industries since PEZA started allowing the registration of vertical ecozones and IT locator companies in 2000,” sabi ni Panga.
Idinagdag niya na sa kabila ng COVID-19 pandemic, ang local IT-BPO sector ay nanatiling matatag sa gitna ng mga hamong dulot ng global health at economic crisis.
“Despite the unprecedented impact of the Covid pandemic these past two years, this industry has proven itself to be one of the most robust and fastest-growing industries in the country. With the unhampered operations since day one of the pandemic, IT locators have sustained the jobs and kept the economy afloat,” sabi ni Panga. PNA
