MAY kabuuang P31.5 billion na halaga ng smuggled goods ang nakumpiska mula January hanggang September, ayon sa Bureau of Customs (BOC).
Ang commodities na lumabag sa intellectual property rights ang nanguna sa listahan ng mga nasabat na produkto, kasunod ang agricultural products, cigarettes, at drugs.
“Ang bureau has already got the highest seizure, in a terms of smuggling, nagresulta na po ito sa 31.5 billion (pesos worth) na various commodities, ito po iyong highest ever record po ng Bureau of Customs, considering na hindi pa po tapos ang taon,” pahayag ni BOC Director Verne Enciso.
Karamihan sa mga produktong nakumpiska ng ahensiya ay counterfeit items tulad ng sapatos, bag at damit.
Ayon kay Encisco, sa agriculture sector lamang ay P3.3 billion na halaga ng bigas at iba pang agricultural products ang nakumpiska.
“The first implemented letters of authority that was conducted in seven warehouses in the vicinity or in the area of Bulacan, four warehouses were issued warrant of seizure and detention resulting in the seizure of 236,571 sacks of rice which originated from Vietnam, Thailand and Pakistan. Three warehouses were released to the claimants with the total of 135,365 rice originating from Vietnam and Thailand,” ani Enciso.
Nasabat din ng BOC ang 36,000 sako ng bigas sa Tondo, Manila at kabuuang 20,000 sako ng bigas ang nadiskubre sa mga lugar sa Las Piñas at Bacoor.
