LUMAKI ang budget deficit ng bansa sa first quarter ng taon sa likod ng mas mataas na paggasta laban sa mababang revenue collections sa gitna ng COVID-19 pandemic.

Sa datos na ipinalabas ng Bureau of the Treasury (BTr), ang national government ay nagtala ng fiscal deficit na P321.5 billion mula Enero hanggang Marso, mas mataas ng 273.11% kumpara sa P86.2-billion shortfall sa kaparehong panahon noong 2020.

Ayon sa ahensiya, ang expenditures ay tumaas ng 22.3 percent noong Marso year-on-year habang bumaba ang revenue collections ng 17.4 percent.

Para sa Marso, ang gobyerno ay nakakolekta ng P216.2 billion na revenues subalit gumasta ng P407.6 billion.

Sa unang tatlong buwan ng taon, ang revenue collections ay umabot sa P696.5 billion, habang ang paggasta ay pumalo sa P1,017.9 billion.

Batay pa sa datos ng Treasury, ang budget shortfall para sa Marso ngayong taon ay mas mataas sa  P71.6 billion deficit noong 2020.

Gayundin, ang shortfall sa first quarter ng 2021 ay higit pa sa triple ng P86.2 billion deficit sa kahalintulad na panahon noong nakaraang taon.

Ayon pa sa BTr, ang disbursements para sa infrastructure projects ng Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), gayundin ang iba’t ibang social welfare programs ang nanguna sa paggasta.
