(Publiko binalaan ng DTI) ONLINE PYRAMID SCHEME

NAGBABALA ang DTI-Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau (DTI-FTEB) sa publiko laban sa Chain Distribution Plans o Pyramid Sales Schemes na naglipana online at ngayo’y ibinebenta o itinataguyod sa iba’t ibang social media sites tulad ng Facebook, Instagram, at YouTube.

Hanggang April 2021, ang DTI-FTEB ay nakatanggap na ng kabuuang 28 reklamo hinggil sa Chain Distribution Plans o Pyramid Sales Schemes mula sa mga consumer at investor. Mas mataas ito ng two-fold kumpara sa 12 natanggap na reklamo noong nakaraang taon.

Base sa imbestigasyong isinagawa ng Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) sa mga reklamo, ang mga kompanya na nagsasagawa at nag-aalok ng Pyramid Sales Schemes ay may tendensiyang higit na magpokus sa recruitment ng bagong potential members kaysa hikayatin ang mga miyembro at  franchisee nito na magbenta ng mga produkto at serbisyo sa mga consumer na may pangakong malaking returns ng investment sa loob lamang ng maikling panahon.

Bukod dito, sinasabi nila na ang business structure na ito ay pandemic proof upang mas maraming investors ang mahikayat.

“Article 53 of Republic Act 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines clearly provides that Chain Distribution Plans or Pyramid Sales Schemes, such as deriving profits primarily or mainly from recruitment of participating members and not from the marketing and sales of products and services shall not be employed in the sale of consumer products,” ayon sa DTI.

“Victims of these fraudulent acts have the right to seek redress from the SEC or the DTI; our doors are always open to assist and guide them in addressing their complaints,” wika ni DTI-Consumer Protection Group (DTI-CPG) Undersecretary Ruth B. Castelo.

Sinabi naman ni DTI Assistant Secretary Ronnel O. Abrenica na,  “Those companies taking advantage of consumers by disguising their pyramid sales scheme as a legitimate business opportunity in the form of multi-level marketing have to be investigated, charged, and penalized if warranted.”

Hinihikayat ang mga consumer na i-report ang mga negosyo na nag-aalok ng Chain Distribution Plans o Pyramid Sales Schemes sa pagtawag sa 1-DTI (1-384) Hotline o sa pagpapadala ng email sa [email protected].
