HUMINGI ng paumanhin ang Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) at inako ang ‘full responsibility’ sa naging performance ng Philippine basketball teams sa katatapos na 31st Southeast Asian Games sa Hanoi, Vietnam.
“We at the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas share the disappointment of our Filipino basketball fans and take full responsibility with the results of our 31st Southeast Asian Games campaign. We apologize we fell short and were not able to give our teams better support that they needed to retain the Gold,” pahayag ni SBP president Al Panlilio sa isang statement.
Mula sa apat na gold medals sa 2019 edition ng SEA Games na ginanap sa Pilipinas, isang gold lamang ang naidepensa ng Gilas na nagmula sa women’s 5×5 team.
Nabigo ang Gilas 3×3 teams na umakyat sa podium habang ang dating naghaharing Gilas Pilipinas ay yumuko sa Indonesia para magkasya sa silver.
Ito ang unang pagkakataon magmula noong 1989 na hindi nakuha ng men’s team ang gold.
“There are no excuses and we’ve learned valuable lessons. We will bounce back and reclaim our spot to stay ahead,” dagdag pa ng SBP.
