TATLONG araw bago ang kanyang huling State of the Nation Address (SONA), nagkaloob ng dagdag-ayuda ang Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte sa mga atletang Pinoy na sumasabak sa Tokyo Olympics, gayundin sa mga kwalipikadong atleta sa Paralympics na gaganapin isang linggo matapos ang Summer Games.
Ipinahayag ni Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez na personal na ipinarating sa kanya ng Pangulo ang paglalaan ng karagdagang tig-P100,000 para sa 19 na atleta sa Tokyo Games, at sa anim na Para athletes.
“President Rodriogo Duterte has approved an additional P100,000 games allowance to all 19 Tokyo Olympians and six qualified in Paralympics as token and to celebrate the achievement,” pahayag ni Ramirez.
“Thank you, President Duterte sa lagi ninyong suporta sa ating mga atleta,” sambit ni Ramirez.
Malaking suporta rin sa desisyon ng Pangulong Duterte ang isinumiteng hiwalay na rekomendasyon ni Senate Committee on Sports Chairman Senador Bong Go.
Batay sa batas, tatanggap ng tig-$1000 allowance ang lahat ng atleta na kalahok sa Olympics.
Iginiit ni Ramirez na kabilang ang sports sa prayoridad ng Pangulong Duterte at patunoy, aniya, ang paglalaan ng kabuuang P2 bilyon para sa paghahanda, foreign exposures, allowances, nutrition, medical, equipment, venues at supplies para sa mga atleta mula pa noong 2016.
“We can see the sincere care of the President for our athletes, grassroots to elite ito. He is the only president who never missed any Palarong Pambansa, consistently recognized the acheivements of our athletes by always inviting them to the Palace and sacrificed standing for three straight hours to award the incentives of our elite athletes,” pahayag ni Ramirez.
Nakasaad din sa RA 10699, o ang Expanded Incentives Act, na tatanggap ng P10 milyon ang atleta na magwawagi ng gintong medalya sa Olympic, habang P5 milyon at P2 milyon sa silver at bronze medalist, ayon sa pagka-kasunod. EDWIN ROLLON
