Tinatayang nagkakahalagang P62.3 bilyon ang hininging badyet ng Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) para sa susunod na taon. Subalit ang inaprubahang badyet para rito ay nasa P52.6 bilyon lamang batay sa rekomendasyon ng Department of Budget and Management.

Ayon mismo sa resulta ng National Achievement Test (NAT) na pinangasiwaan ng DepEd, ang antas na nakuha ng mga Pilipinong mag-aaral ay mas mababa sa itinakdang minimum proficiency score na 75%. Batay sa resulta ng nasabing pagsusulit, ang average na iskor ng mga mag-aaral na Grade 6 ay nasa 37.43% lamang. Ang antas na ito ay humigit kumulang kalahati lamang ng iskor na kinakailangan upang maideklarang pasado ang isang mag-aaral. Samantala, ang mga Grade 10 naman ay may average na iskor na 45.33%. Nakababagabag  ang mga datos na ito.

Kung hindi sapat ang badyet ng mga unibersidad at kolehiyo sa bansa, paano ito aasahang makapagbigay ng magandang kalidad ng edukasyon sa mga mag-aaral? Saan kukunin ang pondo para sa mga scholarship na naglalayong magbigay ng pagkakataon sa mga mahihirap na mag-aaral na makapagtapos ng pag-aaral?Kung salat ang badyet, lalong magiging limitado ang kayang gawin ng sektor para sa mga mag-aaral sa bansa.

Ako ay lubos na sumasang-ayon sa panukala ni Marcos na huwag bawasan ang badyet para sa edukasyon. Sa halip na ito ay bawasan, ito ay dapat dagdagan.
